DCCNM hosted an “ASL Event” for our community

November 10, 2012: DCCNM hosted an “ASL Event” for our community. Ms. Bonnie Rudy, a trustee, was the Master of Ceremonies. She invited the audience to participate in the “Break The Ice” game which allowed the sign language students to interact with the Deaf community. The American Sign Language Academy students performed in front of our audience with their stories. This event inspired students, 4-6th graders, to bravely share their experiences while giving them positive self-esteem in front of an audience. Additionally, the sign language students learned more by watching visually the signs, facial expressions and the stories.

Our upcoming event, sponsored by CNM and UNM sign language departments, will feature a one woman-show, Trix Bruce, who will share her experiences in travel. The performance is free and donations will be contributed to the Deaf Culture Center Building Fund. This will take place on November 16,2012 at Central New Mexico Community College in the Smith Brasher Room 106.

Request for Proposal scheduled to be released on Thursday, January 3rd, 2013.
